The KCC Story

The Origin

2004

The story begins with a single-specialty nephrology practice in 2004, Joliet, IL. Tunji Alausa, MD, our current Chief Medical Officer & Executive Chairman, founded the practice starting as a solo nephrologist. The practice was initially named "Germane Nephrology".

The Foundation

2004

Looking into the future, Dr. Alausa realized that a single physician practice, or even a multi-physician single-location practice was not going to stand the test of survival going into the future. So, almost two decades ago Dr. Alausa made a calculated pragmatic decision to expand Germane Nephrology.

The Partnership

2005

The first physician who joined Germane Nephrology in Joliet then was Mohammad S. Shafi, MD, who is now a senior partner and co-owner of the company. Germane Nephrology expanded in Joliet to four nephrologists.

The Rebranding

2010

Keeping in mind that the practice which began with a single nephrologist in Joliet has now grown into a multi-physician multi-location nephrology practice, it was decided to rebrand the company. In 2010, a new name, Kidney Care Center, was adopted.

The First Milestone

2014

The first additional practice was Kidney Care Center Elgin, which today has about six nephrologists.

The Growth

2015

The second practice was set up in Olympia Fields with seven nephrologists and one nurse practitioner. Then came Kidney Care Center South, Kidney Care Center Rockford, Kidney Care Center Merrillville and so on.

The Expansion

2015-16

Exceptional patient care has driven our outstanding success and propelled us to new heights. Today, Kidney Care Center proudly serves Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Georgia communities.

2022
