Tunji Alausa, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer & Executive Chairman

Tunji Alausa, M.D. is a board-certified Nephrologist and the founder of both Kidney Care Center, a nephrology practice and Dialysis Care Center, a rapidly growing provider of boutique dialysis services nationwide. Through his companies, Dr. Alausa has created a national brand that focuses on optimal care for patients who have chronic kidney disease in underserved communities. He has also contributed tremendously to these communities by providing significant employment opportunities for various stakeholders. He has built a strong team of professionals nationwide who are committed to his vision and mission.

Dr. Alausa completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Cook County Hospital, Chicago; where he was appointed Chief Medical Resident responsible for co-coordinating the training programs of several interns and residents as well as an Attending Physician. Upon completing his tenure at CCH, Dr. Alausa was appointed to the faculty of Rush University Medical School as an Assistant Professor before moving on to the prestigious Medical College of Wisconsin to pursue a specialist training in Nephrology and Hypertension.

Dr. Alausa’s philanthropic spirit has earned him numerous awards that honor him for his charitable contributions and voluntary hours caring for those in need. Dr. Alausa has published multiple medical papers covering a diverse range of practices. His publications have transcended both basic medical research and clinical medicine and have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine. In 2007 & 2012, Dr. Tunji Alausa was named one of America’s Best Physicians.

Mohammad S. Shafi, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer & Executive Vice Chairman

Mohammad S. Shafi, M.D. is a board-certified Nephrologist. He is the co-founder of Dialysis Care Center and Kidney Care Center. Both companies provide services to ensure a better life for patients with CKD or kidney failure. He is recognized as a leader, owing to his expertise in nephrology, compassion for his patients, and his commitment to innovation. His insight was instrumental in launching the nation’s first Staff Enhanced Home Hemodialysis program.

Dr. Shafi completed his medical education at the King Edward Medical University in Lahore Pakistan in 1991. He did his residency in internal medicine at Englewood Hospital, an Affiliate of the prestigious Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he was appointed Chief Resident. In 1997, he completed his fellowship training at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Nephrology. He also completed 1 Year fellowship in critical care university of Louisville, Kentucky.

Dr. Shafi has over twenty-one years of experience in Nephrology. In addition to his nephrology practice, his special interest lies in infection control in dialysis settings which is a major cause of death in dialysis patients. He speaks passionately in several national and international conferences. He strongly believes in giving back to the community and thus is very passionate about his philanthropic efforts. He currently serves as chairman board of trustees of IPAC Foundation, which is striving for preventive health in the third world countries.

Babajide Salako, M.D.

Chief Executive Officer

Babajide Salako, M.D. is an experienced leader with a varied and international experience in medicine and the business of medicine in various roles and responsibilities. He joined the Dialysis Care Center in 2014 as the Chief Executive Officer. He is responsible for driving the company’s visionary plan, growth and overseeing the dialysis business operations on a daily basis. Before joining DCC he held the position of Senior Director of Disaster Response and Business Continuity with Fresenius, where his responsibility included responding to and managing disasters as it impacted kidney patients globally. Dr. Salako’s business acumen and extraordinary vision have earned him numerous recognitions including Person of the Year from the Kidney Community Emergency Response Coalition.

Dr. Salako is an Internal Medicine trained physician who also has his MBA from George Washington University.

Asim M. Shazzad

Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer, Asim M. Shazzad leads Dialysis Care Center focused on Clinical Practice Management to Real Estate portfolio Management. He also sits on the Executive Board of Dialysis Care Center. His Expertise has been key to ensuring that our dialysis practices are not only in compliance but also developed with modern state of the art amenities that ensures our patient comfort. He leads the operational Excellence team including the Project Management office.

Asim has more than fifteen years of in-depth management experience in the dialysis industry, serving in executive roles in management, finance, and business development. He has led Dialysis Care Center since its inception, guiding it through all of its development phases to the successful initiation and rapid growth.

John Renzi

Vice President of Operations

John Renzi currently holds the position of VP Operations at Kidney Care Center. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations at the company. He also oversees the Revenue and Financial Process for Kidney Care Center. John possesses outstanding revenue and financial leadership skills and is a great asset to the company.

He holds a BS degree in Health Administration from the Governor’s State University. John is known as a kind and compassionate person among his colleagues. He believes in showing respect towards everyone and goes by the motto of “treat others as you want to be treated”. 

Lanre Alausa

Vice President of Value-Based and Integrated Care

Lanre Alausa is currently the Vice President of Value-Based and Integrated Care for Kidney Care Center and Dialysis Care Center. He has more than 13 years of experience in the dialysis space. Lanre’s positive relationships with the external partners is instrumental in the successful business operations for both of our organizations (KCC and DCC) and our partners. He is also responsible for implementing and managing the collaborative Value-Based Care programs between the Dialysis Care Center, Kidney Care Center, Government, and Private Health Plans such as The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation Models (CKCC and ETC Models) and all other Value-Based Programs.

Lanre holds an MBA degree with an emphasis in Financial Management. He is also a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).

Jeanine Larry

Senior Director of Operations

Jeanine Larry serves as Senior Director of Operations at Kidney Care Center. She oversees all clinical operations including, office management, physicians’ growth, and development for Kidney Care Center Offices. Jeanine believes in making a difference for patients, staff, and providers by creating a unique culture of kindness, compassion, and high-quality care. She has been with Kidney Care Center for over nine years and has grown with the company as an individual. During her time at KCC, she expanded the Illinois and Indiana offices and has managed to add over twenty-five physicians to the organization.

Jeanine holds a BS degree in Education from Lewis University. She greatly emphasizes having compassion for each patient and providing the most exceptional care to ensure they have the best experience at Kidney Care Center.

Michele Crnich

Senior Director of Human Resources, Marketing/Communications

Michele Crnich currently holds the position of Senior Director, HR and Marketing/Communications. She has been with Kidney Care Center to build the Human Resources department, HR services, and the Marketing department as well. Michele brought a wide breadth of Human Resources and Communications experience in the Healthcare field, specifically, 20 plus years focused on Skilled Nursing and Rehab facilities.

Michele’s passion for working with people is apparent as she works with the team, assisting them in their professional development, consults with Managers, addresses challenges, creates processes, continually evaluates employee benefits, and focuses on maintaining a healthy, happy, professional work culture for the entire KCC team.

She earned a BS degree in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations. As an SHRM member, she remains current with employment law and HR updates.

Ning Ramos

Director of Marketing and Outreach

Ning Ramos is the Director of Marketing and Outreach at KCC. Ning oversees the KCC Physician Liaisons and DCC Dialysis Outreach Liaisons. Her responsibilities extend from developing strategic plans and conducting market research, to carrying out public relations initiatives. In addition to her roles, she believes that a company’s growth and success are relative to its competency in keeping up with the trends in the market, and her passion for research is the key to achieving it.

Ning holds an MS degree in Health Administration as well as an MBA. She believes that continuous and interactive learning is the only way to keep up with the ever-changing market, especially in the healthcare industry.

Melissa Turek

Senior Manager of Operations

Melissa Turek is the Senior Manager of Operations, overseeing the scheduling department, training and implementation team, and patient support services department. She along with the training and implementation team. She is part of the Physician recruitment team and handles physician contracting as well. Melissa sees herself as a facilitator in the organization to enable the growth of staff and patients ensuring a positive experience for everyone.

Over a decade with KCC, Melissa’s role has been multifaceted. She has developed and implemented various programs, including the EHR conversion to the current operating system. Melissa takes pride in sharing the vast knowledge she gained throughout these years in KCC with the teams to help them grow.

Jackie Lopez

HR Manager

Jackie Lopez serves as Human Resources Manager at Kidney Care Center. She is responsible for managing the HR department and supervising talent acquisition as well. Lopez makes it her priority to establish a healthy, professional work culture for everyone in KCC. She ensures that employees are satisfied with the conditions of their employment, which leads to better healthcare for patients and helps the company’s success.
