2004
The story begins with a single-specialty nephrology practice in 2004, Joliet, IL. Tunji Alausa, MD, our current Chief Medical Officer & Executive Chairman, founded the practice starting as a solo nephrologist. The practice was initially named "Germane Nephrology".
2004
Looking into the future, Dr. Alausa realized that a single physician practice, or even a multi-physician single-location practice was not going to stand the test of survival going into the future. So, almost two decades ago Dr. Alausa made a calculated pragmatic decision to expand Germane Nephrology.
2005
The first physician who joined Germane Nephrology in Joliet then was Mohammad S. Shafi, MD, who is now a senior partner and co-owner of the company. Germane Nephrology expanded in Joliet to about four nephrologists.
2005
With this strategic expansion came Asim Shazzad as a practice manager, who was running a practice in Joliet. He joined and propelled us towards opening more practices. Today he is the Chief Operating Officer of the Kidney Care Center.
2010
Keeping in mind a multi-physician multi-location nephrology practice, it was decided to rebrand the company in 2010. A new name, Kidney Care Center, was coined.
2014
The first additional practice was Kidney Care Center Elgin, which today has about six nephrologists.
2015
The second practice was set up in Olympia Fields with about seven nephrologists and one nurse practitioner. Then came Kidney Care Center South, Kidney Care Center Rockford, Kidney Care Center Merrillville and so on.
2015-16
Exceptional patient care led to exceptional success. This success provided the boost to the other stage of federation. Today Kidney Care Center is present in the state of Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Tampa area in Florida. We also have Kidney Care Center in Indiana and Georgia.
2022
